Choose The ToolPost for your supply of high-quality timber

Although many outlets like our own here at The ToolPost offer hardwood suitable for woodturning, any budding or seasoned professional will be aware of the great importance of the highest quality wood for producing the best possible projects.

The sourcing of timbers suitable for turning is becoming increasingly difficult, requiring us to seek supplies from many alternative sources. Our 'native' timber, for example, now comes primarily from Germany, enabling us to offer it at lower cost, with more consistent quality, better conditioned (kilned) and at economical transport cost - and with very few delays.

Furthermore, our bowl blanks are no longer cut as rounds but as squares, from which the woodturner can easily cut round bowls. The reasons for this change, beyond it being the 'norm' in Europe, are that the timber is easier to store and handle, it provides the user with far greater flexibility in the use of the timber, and allows us to offer you more timber for your money.

Cutting timber into square blanks offers significantly more flexibility than the 'bowl rounds' that we once supplied. You can now experiment with designs such as square bowls and ornaments, or even use your leftover supply for smaller woodturning and carving projects. If you need turning squares when yu only have a square bowl blankin stock it is an easy matter to bandsaw a square blank into 'sticks' to give you the timber in the form you require.

Environmentally, square blanks are less wasteful - conservation matters. Finally, timber also dries more easily in squares than it does in rounds, and the more stable the timber, the better it is for turning.

We have selected a range of only the very best hardwoods for you to peruse on our website. We stock conveniently-cut woods that are ideal for both beginners and more experienced turners involved in more demanding or specialised woodturning projects, such as bowl-making.

The wide range of domestic and tropical hardwoods made available through The ToolPost allows you to be more creative and flexible in your woodturning projects and can be complemented by the large selection of woodturning tools and accessories that are also in our stock.

If you would prefer to make a hardwood purchase face-to-face, we recommend calling into our Didcot showroom, where a full selection of wood is available. For woodcarving, Lime can normally be cut to your required dimensions whilst you wait.
