'native' timber, for example, now comes primarily from Germany, enabling us to offer it at lower cost, with more consistent quality, better conditioned (kilned) and at economical transport cost - and with very few
Furthermore, our bowl blanks are no longer cut as rounds but as squares, from which the woodturner can easily cut round bowls. The reasons for this change, beyond it being the 'norm' in Europe, are that the
timber is easier to store and handle, it provides the user with far greater flexibility in the use of the timber, and allows us to offer you more timber for your money.
Cutting timber into square blanks offers
significantly more flexibility than the 'bowl rounds' that we once supplied. You can now experiment with designs such as square bowls and ornaments, or even use your leftover supply for smaller woodturning and carving
projects. If you need turning squares when yu only have a square bowl blankin stock it is an easy matter to bandsaw a square blank into 'sticks' to give you the timber in the form you require.
blanks are less wasteful - conservation matters. Finally, timber also dries more easily in squares than it does in rounds, and the more stable the timber, the better it is for turning.
